Welcome Reception — Sunday, October 3

Guests to GGAA2010 will be welcomed with true Western Canadian hospitality at this informal Welcome Reception. Canadian Mounties, dressed in the traditional red serge uniforms, will be on hand to greet guests. Make sure you stop to have your photo taken with them for a great memento of your visit to Banff, Canada.

“Taste of Alberta” Barbecue — Monday, October 4

Guests will experience a traditional western Canadian barbecue at Brewster's MountView Barbecue. Donut tents with a roaring fire in the middle, pine slab picnic tables, ol' tyme country music and a hip of barbecued beef served on a pitchfork are just part of the experience. Guests will also be entertained by award winning First Nations Dancers and will get a chance to try out a few Western line-dancing steps themselves.

“Receding Glaciers and Climate Change” Tour — Wednesday, October 6

All conference delegates will have a chance to see first-hand the effects that climate change has had on the glaciers of the Rocky Mountains. You will be treated to a mountain picnic lunch and professional guides will be on hand to answer all your questions. Tour highlights will include:
  • Crowfoot Glacier: One of the day's many up close glacier views.
  • Peyto Lake: The classic emerald green jewel of the Canadian Rockies.
  • Mistaya Canyon: A dramatic example of water's sculpting power.
  • Cirrus Mountain: Look at the steep climb from the weeping wall and scope the avalanche slopes for wildlife.
  • Bridal Veil Falls: Fantastic view over the Icefields Parkway and the falls.
  • Bow Lake: The headwaters of the mighty Bow River.
  • Columbia Icefields: Venture onto the Athabasca Glacier on the Ice Explorer snow bus! Visit the interpretive centre to learn about the history of the Rocky Mountain glaciers.

Gala Banquet — Wednesday, October 6

No successful conference is complete without the Gala Banquet. Guests will have a chance to socialize with speakers, sponsors and conference organizers. Banff Park Lodge's 5-star Chef will prepare a 4 course meal of Canadian delicacies — a feast for the eye and the palette.

The Gala Banquet is included with full conference registration. Extra tickets are available to registered delegates at a cost of $100 each.
